Waterguard+ uses sensor tape (Sensor Tape) and/or wireless sensors (WaterSensor+) for leak detection. The system must be connected to at least 1 sensor for functional leak protection. Linkbox+ and the Abralife app will alert you if no sensor is connected.
This article covers how to install the sensors. For information on recommended locations and configurations, see specific solution descriptions under Waterguard+ installation solutions.
Sensor Tape
- Sensor tape with 3.5 mm Jack plug can be connected to Linkbox+ or the wireless water sensor WaterSensor+ (requires power supply bracket for Watersensor+).
- Sensor tape is self-adhesive. Remove the protective paper on the underside of the tape and attach it firmly to a clean and dry surface where potential leaks are to be monitored. The sensor tape can also be attached to water pipes.
- NB! Avoid the sensor points on the sensor tape folding or coming into contact with each other (or other conductive material). This can trigger false leakage alarms.
- Sensor Tape is standard 3 meters long. It can be cut to the desired length if needed (cut between the sensor points)
- Sensor Tape can be extended or split to a total of 6 meters. See the sections below for details.
If there is a need to fold the sensor tape, this must be done between 2 sensor points. If you fold at a sensor point, the risk of a short circuit is increased, which in turn could result in false leakage alarms.
Sensor tape can be cut to the desired length. It is important that it is cut between 2 sensor points. Cutting a sensor point increases the risk of short circuits and false leakage alarms.
Splice piece for Sensor Tape
The supplied sensor tape can be extended to a total of 6 meters by using the extension piece for Sensor Tape in combination with sensor tape without Jack plug. Sensor Tape is pushed in from each side of the extension piece.
NOTE! Always test water detection on both sides of the splice to verify a successful connection.
Sensor Tape Splitter
For installation of 2 pieces of sensor tape with 3.5 mm Jack plug, use the splitter for Sensor Tape w/3.5 mm Jack.
Connect the splitter to Linkbox+ or bracket to the wireless sensor. Then connect 2 x sensor tapes with 3.5 mm Jack plug that are attached to the surface in the desired direction.
NOTE! Always test water detection on both sensor tapes to verify a successful connection.
WaterSensor+ wireless water sensor
For registration of wireless sensors, see this article
Up to 50 sensors can be connected to one Linkbox+.
For further details, see the Watersensor+ user manual.
Insert battery
A 3V Coin cell CR2477 battery is included with the sensor and must be inserted before using the sensor. If the battery comes with plastic protection, this must be removed before installation. The battery cover has a seal (to prevent water ingress) and may therefore be difficult to open. Use a suitable tool if you cannot open it with your fingers. Follow the steps below:
Placement of WaterSensor+ without bracket
WaterSensor+ wireless water sensors can be used without a bracket. The sensor is placed freely wherever water leakage, temperature or humidity is to be monitored. The included battery (CR2477) provides 5 years+ battery life.
NOTE! When the sensors are placed freely, there is always a risk that they will inadvertently change position or be turned upside down (e.g. when washing floors etc.). Be aware of this as it may affect the ability to detect leaks.
Installation of WaterSensor+ with mounting bracket
WaterSensor+ can be placed freestanding or fixed to the floor, wall or ceiling using the WaterSensor+ Cover bracket. The bracket provides the flexibility to strategically place the sensor in locations where humidity measurement is critical to health and building integrity.
-
Clean the mounting surface and remove 4x tape covers before mounting the bracket.
or
Mount with screws suitable for the substrate, minimum 2x (max. Ø3 mm). Do not overtighten as this will damage the bracket.
- Place the WaterSensor+ in the bracket and mount the cover on top
- Turn the cover in the direction of the arrow to lock. You will hear and feel a "click" when the cover is in place. Unlock the cover by turning in the opposite direction.
Installation of WaterSensor+ in mounting bracket with option for external sensor tape and power supply
- Attach the WaterSensor+ power supply bracket tothe floor or wall using A) screws (not included) or B) the supplied double-sided tape.
A)
B)
- Align the indicator line on the sensor with the indicator line on the bracket and insert the sensor (Step 1).
- Turn the sensor clockwise to a noticeable "CLICK". Check that the indicator line points to the CLOSED position (Step 2).
Connect the Sensor Tape to the bracket (optional):
-
Sensor tape with 3.5 mm Jack plug is inserted into the contact point on the right of the bracket.
- Push the connector all the way in. ATTENTION. The bracket is made with a seal to protect the contact points from water ingress. Connecting the 3.5 mm jack plug therefore requires slightly more force than normal.
Connect the 5V power adapter for WaterSensor+ to the bracket (optional)
- The power connector is inserted into the contact point on the left of the bracket.
NOTE! To avoid using the wrong power adapter (or confusing the contact points), the connector for the power adapter is made with a small pin that fits the groove in the left contact point. Make sure that this pin is positioned correctly before connecting.
Push the connector all the way in. BS. The bracket is made with a seal to protect the contact points from water ingress. It therefore requires slightly more force than normal.
Mounting WaterSensor+ in wall box with docking (COMING)
The WaterSensor+ can be mounted in a wall box, connected to power, using the docking for WaterSensor+. The product will be available for order during 2024.
NB! Fixed installations must be carried out by an authorized electrician
1. Standard, simple wall box (Elko and Schneider compatibility is guaranteed) is installed in the wall and 230V AC power cable is led to the wall box.
2. The power cable (230V AC) is connected to the docking bracket's power inlet. Polarity is marked on the connector.
3. Screw the docking bracket to the wall box with the wall box screws and adjust the position.
4. Connect the sensor tape. Make sure that the cut-out on the tape is positioned on the safety pin of the docking bracket.
5. Align the indicator line on the sensor with the indicator line on the bracket and insert the sensor (Step 1).
6. Turn the sensor clockwise until a noticeable/audible "CLICK". Check that the indicator line points to the CLOSED position (Step 2).
7. Mount the frame on the docking bracket (ELKO Smart single frame is also compatible). Make sure the frame clicks securely into place.
8. Fit the protective cover over the sensor. Make sure the cover clicks securely into place. NOTE! Ensure that the cover is fitted the right way round.
9. The sensor's LED light (water droplet) should be visible when the cover is correctly attached.
